The band performs music from STAR TREK, BABYLON 5, THE X-FILES mixed with their own originals of pop, rock, jazz, and often heavy sequencer sounds with special effects! Now based in Toronto, SCI-FI PRODIGY is led by "Head Scientist" PATRICK CROSS(as described by AL JOYNES- Q107FM) who put the "concept" together back in 1985. PATRICK CROSS sings lead vocals and performs all guitars as well as writes all the music for the band! Their 6-song, self-titled cassette, "GOING-UP"has sold well over 15,000 units independently in Canada and the US since its release in 1992!
SCI-FI was featured on Canada's New Rock in 1993 - hosted by AL JOYNES (Q107 FM) with their first CD SINGLE, "WISHING YOU WELL" on RDR records (Joe Radio), TORONTO and is still receiving airplay across Canada! SCI-FI PRODIGY was also featured on IMPACT Magazines's COMPILATION CD - VOLUME 1 in 1994 with the song "HEART'S ON FIRE" where it received airplay at NHL HOCKEY GAMES and US College Radio Stations. SCI-FI PRODIGY has also tapped into the interactive and multi-media entertainment market,writing music for LUXOR HOTEL CASINO, LasVegas' various motion theatres and recently "LASER TAG GAMES" including the popular LASER QUEST ADVENTURE GAME!
SCI-FI prefers to perform at unique clubs, hotels, and concerts "where no band has gone before" such as playing at STAR TREK conventions, PSYCHIC SHOWS, and MULTI-MEDIA trade shows! The band has been compared to bands like: RUSH, GENESIS, YES, and BLUE OYSTER CULT.
Other members of the band include LOUIS COXTON(keyboard, vocals), MARK STALEY (session musician) on bass guitar/vocals and RICK GIROUARD (studio session drummer).
SCI-FI was recently featured on Q107's HOMEGROWN CONTEST '95 where they were placed in the top 50 bands with their song "CAN'T FIND MY WAY HOME." The band is currently finishing up their latest CD, titled "SOMETHING IS OUT THERE" which features actual recordings of GHOSTS and PARANORMAL activity!
SCI-FI has attracted media attention by holding interviews on a FULL MOON at selected meetings at MIDNIGHT! The meetings are held on fields or selected areas where UFO's and STRANGE ACTIVITIES have been seen!--
